Hyde Park Golf Club
About
Hyde Park Golf Club, built in 1925 by Donald Ross, is one of the oldest in Florida. In 1971, the golf course was purchased by former touring professionals Billy Maxwell and Chris Blocker, who have successfully restored it.
Rolling hills, gorgeous Spanish Oaks and towering Southern Pines make Hyde Park a lasting experience. A tour stop for the men's and women's professional golf tours in the 1940s and 1950s, the golf course gained a place in history during the 1947 Jacksonville Open. The great Ben Hogan took an 11 on the par-3 sixth, which became known as "Hogan's Alley." It has a deep-faced bunker to the right and water to the left.
Hyde Park Golf Club measures 6,468 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 71, and it has a slope rating of 124.

Until they fix the greens...
Been playing Hyde Park for 40 years. The tree work, the filling in of some bunkers, the cart path work, actually having a cut-line in between the fairway and rough are all very admirable. But, until you fix the greens, you are a 2-Star course. I can over look everything from the abomination of a clubhouse that should be raised, to no beverage cart or snack shop, to the ranger who is harassing you every other hole, even though you are waiting on the five-some ahead of you, But if I cannot roll a putt, I don't want to play your course, it is simply no fun to not be able to putt. Everything else can be dealt with, bad green cannot. This course is for beginners, not for good players that want to play the ball down and shoot a number.
Not user friendly.
They do nothing about slow play or people playing music while playing. They have a gps cart system that leaves you stranded and there is no rhyme nor reason to were they don't want the carts to go and the restricted areas are not roped off. Most of the tee boxes are dirt. The course has gone downhill while they 'beautify the course by removing trees. The 'clubhouse' has been under repair for 5 years and all they offer is a tent with bench tables and a food truck. This is not a golfer friendly course
Course making big improvements
I've played Hyde Park for 7 years and yesterday was the best condition I've ever seen it in. I won't say there are no areas on the course that still need some work but the greens and fairways have shown some significant improvement. Not sure if it was all that rain we had two weeks ago but the turf was in good shape. It's not in perfect condition but you can tell a lot of work has gone into revitalizing this course. Go play this gem of a golden age course.
Good bang for the buck
Course was in pretty good shape. The only thing that was a little disappointing was that there was not a cart girl. We played early 7:15am but by tine 11am came around and we were finishing up we would have like to get some refreshments. 95 degrees by 10:30 and the ice we had in or drinks had long evaporated.
Handle that and you can’t beat the course for the price.
Donald Ross design
Doing a lot of work on the course
Was a little wet. Cart path only
But a terrific layout with some very tough greens
I will try to go back in the fall to see if the course conditions improve
If you are a golf history buff, this is a must play
An average course trying to get better
Clubhouse closed due to complete renovations. Fairways were nice however the greens need improvement. The Geo-sensing needs to be adjusted as at times the cart was 30+ yards away from a green and would shut down the cart. Other areas off the fairway also require attention as the cart was only feet off the cart path and got shut down. This is a "you pay for what you get course" Great for beginners or low budget golfers. Look forward t the club house getting finished.
Course is being worked on, front nine needs improvement, back nine in good condition. Club house being renovated. When all work is finished it will be the course to play.
Disappointed
It was better before they started revamping the course. T-boxes need work. Bald spots on The fairway. Cart pass terrible. Generally messed up. One project at a time guys. We should have taken pictures of all the destruction.
Yougetwhatyoupayfor
Green Boxes are torn up, fairways are very thin, greens are terrible with no grass. Play is slow. They are trying to bring it back but it is taking too long and the course conditions are terrible.
Never know oldest Jax course
Well kept greens and fairways. Clubhouse been out of commission for quite some time know though.
Decent Value for Historical Course
For a course that boasts such a rich history in Florida golf, this course is a decent value and a true walk back in time. The course condition is mostly below average, with spotty fairways and uneven tee boxes; however, the greens rolled consistent and were in fair condition. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The best part about this place is the layout, it is a challenging track that tests all facets of a players game. Overall, it was a good experience, hopefully the course conditions continue to improve and get the course back to its former glory.
Hidden gem
Hyde Park is a great course to get a quick round in. Always cool to play a course that is a part of PGA history. Front 9 is very Florida like, and the back 9 reminds me of courses in North Carolina, which is a nice switch up. Definitely making Hyde Park my home course.
Very nice course
The course is in great condition. I have played nearly every public course between Jacksonville and New Smyrna Beach this year and this course is as nice or better than most all of them. We really enjoyed playing here today.
Tee Boxes
Hyde always provides that challenging round for the only “Muni” in town. However, today the tee boxes were suboptimal! A good round is always predicated by a good drive or tee-shot to a par 3…
