Resort Course
Greens are still bumpy from airation. Otherwise course is in. Great shape.
OMG!
If you like adventure this course is for you! Every hole presented a new challenge. If your thinking this course is too short I triple dare you to play from the tips player. The views from the ocean are refreshing.
Let down and disappointed
THE PICTURES LIE!!!
The pictures make this course out to be a top of the line course. When I got to the first tee box I thought "I hope the rest of the holes arnt like this" and they were. The course is only 6,100 yds from the tips and is one of the toughest courses you'll ever play in a bad way. It's way too narrow and off two tee boxes I had to play punch shots just to get the ball under the trees. The tee boxes were positioned weird and one hole didn't even have a gold tee box witch is what I was playing. The greens were far from perfect. I will say the view was great and the staff was friendly. Other than that, it was not a good course.
Nice Holes along the Ocean.
Great layout. Only worry is the long drive between holes and the traffic of people from resort stays. Greens were in good shape and fairways have come back from treatment. Ranger and cart staff were great.
Tuesday Outing
Extremely hot/Humid Challenging course .
Good Staff friendly, Course was in good shape. No waiting , greens were a little bumpy but they were recently punched.
We had a great time!
Beautiful Course
Ocean Links is a great course to play if you're in the Amelia Island/Jacksonvillle area. The course is well maintained and the staff is very friendly. The holes along the ocean are beautiful, and they will test your shot making and club selection. Two negative marks...One, the course winds through numerous neighborhoods and parking lots. The long distances from green to tee are difficult to follow at times. Two, the course doesn't turn in close proximity to the clubhouse and their is no refreshment cart on course. If you're wanting a snack or drink, then it's best to bring it along. This info would have been helpful to know. Overall, it was a very enjoyable golfing experience.
Not the best place on a hot day
This review is tempered by the fact that it was nearly 100F when I played. The holes on the ocean are as beautiful as many you'll ever see on a links course, but the inland holes weren't that enjoyable and without a breeze were at times unbearable. Greens were excellent. Fairways were average. Bermuda rough was extremely thick, particularly for a tight course. Pace of play was slow and not monitored well enough, in my opinion. TaylorMade rental clubs were excellent. Don't let short yardage fool you. It's a tough course, particularly if you don't keep your tee shot in the fairway. I'd give the course another shot on a cooler day, but in general not my style.
Exquisite Scenery
Great track, and words could not describe the views. 4 holes right on the beach. Hopefully you get lucky with the wind! Tips are around 6100, but the wind can sometimes make it feel much longer. Greens were recently punched, but still rolled well. Give it a few weeks, catch a hot deal and you can't complain. Staff is very helpful and welcoming
Tiny Greens
The course was island style golf. Sandy cart paths, wide fairways and the green to tee separation is not good on most holes. You could be teeing off and 10 yards away is a green. The layout was crazy and sometimes hard to follow where the next hole was. It doesn't flow like a normal course. The ocean holes were nice but not fantastic. Some of the pins were placed in the most impossible places to hole a putt.
I would not play the course again. I am glad I did not pay full price to play.
Great Views of the Ocean
Great weather. Course was busy but moved along well. They where having a large outing on other course so clubhouse was real busy. Staff was friendly and helpful. Omni shuttle had parked in front of road at bag drop so we carried bags from parking lot, shuttle driver should know better. Holes along beach can be difficult if wind is blowing off ocean. Tight fairways and severely sloping greens, take extra club and try to keep ball flight down. Would need to play course a number of times to learn where to land ball. Would not try to walk this course, long distance between holes.
One complaint, no reason for on course coolers to be out of water in Florida in summer.
Will play again if I get a chance.
Great course & great value for public
This is a great course, always a challenge and you can get your bang for your buck. The holes on the ocean are beautiful, yet always windy and challenging, make it a great course to get away from the office. Don't let the yardage deceive you into thinking this course will have you scoring low. With links courses, I always like to play them a second time, as the first time will always catch you with a nice surprise leaving you at the end of the round wanting some revenge?
Charleston 8
Beautiful layout. Challenging due to narrow fairways. Women friendly. Wonderful wildlife. Watch for pedestrian strollers. Would definitely return.
Ocean Links - First Time Around
Overall, this is a good golf course. It is in good overall condition. The greens were very good. It has in interesting mix of holes with 6 par 3's, 4 par 5's and 8 par 4's. I played it from a mix of the gold and blue tees. It is fairly short, probably too short for young guys who hit it 300 yards off the tee. We paid about $40 per person to ride, That included range balls. I thought it was a very good value overall. It is not a course that would lend itself to walking as the spacing between some holes is convoluted and vast. Pace of play was excellent. Bunkers were in good shape. It's really a very nice resort golf course and if you can get it for $40, it's a very good choice.
Great course
This was my second time playing the Ocean Links Course and it was just as good this time as the last. I brought along my best friend and his son and they loved it. They both remarked that it was the most beautiful course they'd ever played. The three of us have played more than one hundred courses each, in several states so that was not just idle chatter. The ocean side holes are our favorite, but there is not a disappointing hole on the course. The layout is a little tricky getting from number 6 to number 7, and they could use a few more signs. Overall it's a wonderful course and you'll have a great time. They are supposed to punch the greens in late May, so be sure to check on that if you plan to play the course.
Not a $100.00 course
Nice layout but not $100.00 course greens in good shape but faiway conditions are something to be desired.
Odd layout, some fun holes
I would rate this 3.5 stars, but that is not an option...
Pros:
1. Oceanfront holes are really fun, and beautiful
2. Greens are in good shape, and roll true
3. Nice shop/restaurant
Cons:
1. Apart from the ocean holes, the rest of the course is nice, but nothing special
2. Fairways were under repair in some places, and had been aerated. Might want to give them a couple of weeks.
3. The layout was the most circuitous I have ever played -- very long drives between some holes, through parking lots, houses, etc.
A BEAUTY
The course is quite challenging from the blues @ 5500...Gold to be played by scratch or you won't enjoy this place. Scenic on the ocean for a 1/3 of the course and normal for the balance. A repeater from all of the 9 courses we played this trip. Will return in aheartbeat
has been better
course was not in great shape. probably just overseeded but its been better. course not fun when windy and it was 3 club windy down by water. water views make this course as other holes just average. marsh course prettier I think. good if you get golf now hot deal.
Ocean views were great
The course was in pretty good shape. The approaches around the greens need improvement. The greens were in good condition. We were the only ones on the Ocean course on a Sunday afternoon which was fantastic. I would not pay the full price to play this course.
Great ocean course
This course is a must play for people in the northern Florida area and is a steal for the price. Great layout and beautiful scenery of ocean.
