South/North at Fernandina Beach Municipal Golf Course
About
South/North is one of three golf courses at Fernandina Beach Golf Club. The facility is home to three distinct nines that form three different 18-hole combinations. Winding through thick forests of oaks and pines, Fernandina Beach Golf Club's South/North course offers a glimpse at native Florida wildlife. The South nine depends more on accuracy rather than distance while the north nine, the shortest in length of the three, features undulating greens. Water hazards also come into play throughout the golf course. Fernandina Beach's 27 unique holes are made even more appealing by the affordable rates and convenient proximity to Jacksonville and the beach.

Progress is Being made
Course is on its 3rd general manager and course superintendent in the last four years. New GM has been on the job for a little over 6 months- new super, 2 months. Greens are recovering from some serious chemical mistakes made over the winter. They are coming along quite nicely now, as is the putting green. Fairways, bunkers and tee boxes need work. Avoid the South course if you can - fairways are closed on 2 holes (1 and 8) making it a par 33 and fairways on two others (2 and 9) probably should be closed as well. If play here and pay $60 for your round you will be understandably upset. More than $40 is too much, especially if you get stuck on the South course. But progress is being made.
It’s not that difficult to grow grass in Florida - Why can’t this course do it?
I wish I would have gone to another course. I had to roll my ball around on almost every shot because there was hardly any grass. I even hit 16 out of 18 fairways and it was difficult to find any grass to hit off of. The greens were rough - my ball danced around after every putt. However, the lady inside the club house and the starter were super nice and friendly.
Horrible couese
This course is way to expensive for the course conditions. You can’t tell the rough from the fairway, the fairway is totally loaded with weeds. The greens had lots of grass missing from disease or whatever. Never play here again.
Horrible
This was by far the worst course to date, that I have played at. The tee boxes were just hills of dirt. You couldn’t tell the fairways from the rough. The greens were a quarter gone around the edges. I would tell anyone thinking of playing there, DON’T.
Horrible Course
This was by far the worst course I have ever played at. Right from the minute we arrived, no one to help with the bags, the lady in the pro shop was very nice and friendly. The starter and cart guy were also very friendly and nice. The course itself was in horrid condition. You couldn’t tell the fairway from the rough, the greens were just aerated and no one bothered to mention that. The tee boxes were pretty much non existent, no grass on them at all. There was only one centrally located bathroom on the course and the gas carts barely went. This place needs a total upgrade.
Needs tlc
This course is an old tradition in this community. Being new to the area, this course has a great opportunity to become an incredible club, just needs foresight and a bunch of TLC...great layout
Good Value
Course not in great condition. Some good some bad greens. Good layout. Great value for the money.
Fernandina Beach should be ashame
I came to Fernandina about 14 years ago and this was the premiere public course in North Florida. The course always had the best greens of all the courses on the island.Today was a true disappointment. The course was in terrible condition. Someone has not been paying attention to the condition of the course. The city has truly allowed the course to grow into terrible condition. It is obvious that Fernandina Beach and it’s leadership no longer value the gem that they once had. It is truly a shame and the leadership of the city has allowed the course to get in this condition.
Look elsewhere.
Staff is friendly and helpful, unfortunately the course overall is in rough shape. The fairways are non existent, bare spots and weeds clearly out number grass areas. Most tee boxes are just OK. Greens are very inconsistent. Looks like they have shut down the west course (1 of 3 sides) due to conditions. Btw the carts are do for an upgraded.
Lawn treatments and water most be prohibited in this area!
Some strong course mgt would make this fun to play as the course has a ton of potential.
If you're looking just to get some swing practice in then you will be fine here, otherwise look elsewhere.
Low maintenance levels
Being a muni course close to a fair number of people gets this course a fair number of golfers judging the amount of folks out. The greens are suffering from either some disease repair or water stress. The super needs to get tee boxes and greens up to snuff to get a players worth even at $51 a round. Even the majority of the West and North course fairways had more weeds than contiguous grass to hit off of. Sand traps were 3 different types of sand and different depths⅕ of sand on top of hard soil. And I was in a lot of traps, and I'm a good sand player.
Great layout and price
Fairways are thin, greens improving. Long course. Great value with hot deal pricing.
Goat ranch
I wouldn’t graze my cattle on this course! The greens are severely damaged, 2 of the 9 tee boxes on the South Course are closed along with the fairways of those holes.
The course is absolutely TERRIBLE!!!
The fairways on all 27 holes are severely damaged. There patches of weeds and and bald spots on which your well hit drive will land.
While you may hit a great iron into a green, you’ll with great certainty putt through some damaged area of the green.
This golf course is desperate and has no shame nor dignity to remain open and take golfers’ money for what we get in return. Shame! Shame! Shame!
Course conditions Improving a little every time I play !
Played the West and North course.
Much more enjoyable than the South Course.
