West/South at Fernandina Beach Municipal Golf Course
About
Just north of the Jacksonville Airport, Fernandina Beach Golf Club offers three 18-hole courses that are conveniently located within distance of both Jacksonville and the beach. There are three distinct nines at the club that create three different 18-hole combinations. The West/South combination is the tournament course at Fernandina Beach Golf Club. The West nine is long and there is a challenging par-5 that is one of the most difficult on the golf course. The South nine features an abundance of trees and water hazards, putting a heavier emphasis on accuracy rather than distance in scoring well. The golf course is also considered a perfect example of scenic Florida golf with native foliage and wildlife throughout.

Improving
This is a muni, so you should set your expectations accordingly. While conditions are not great, they are improving. The south course was awful, has started to show signs of improvement. There is a long way to go, but it is encouraging to see that there is finally some effort being put forth. This 9 has a great layout, but years of neglect will take years of work to bring it up to par (sorry for the pun).
The greens were in very good condition
I've played here before and it was in good condition for this course. Many of the tee boxes were in need of repair but the greens were the best I've seen them.
Course was challenging
The course layout was challenging but fair. My only complaint is course conditions. Some of the fairways had bare areas, the worst being the first hole on the South course. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Growing
Course maintenance have been working overtime, fairways and greens are increasing getting better. Great job on improving
Too pricey for the conditions
Of course, it's getting better from what it was at the beginning of the year.
Much Improved
You can tell that they have done work on the course. It is much improved and getting better.🙂🙂
The city of Fernandina either doesn’t read the reviews of the golf course or doesn’t care. I’ve lived in Fernandina/Yulee most of my life. This course 30 years ago was a great course. I haven’t played here in sometime but remember the course was in bad shape then. It is 10 times worse. Fairway are mainly dirt, greens are terribly patchy and the bunkers are inconsistent. City of Fernandina, please put funds in the budget to fix this course! It is a awesome layout and super friendly staff. There are to many courses within 30-40 mile radius that is cheaper to play and much better quality!
Poor Conditions
Got to the course and paid for round. Was told no starter “just tee off at your time”. Playing west to south. First tee box only had 1 set of tees as the blue tee box was overgrown. Greens were destroyed by fungus and little to no grass to putt on. Cart paths were torn up and falling apart, bunkers had about 1/2” of dirt “no sand”. 2 par 4 holes on the south course were closed off and made into par 3’s hitting off mats. Just a terrible round. I drove 2 hrs one way to play a course that couldn’t be bothered with course maintenance. Just horrible.
Ruff conditions
Currently in the worse condition that I have seen it in. There are areas roped of to try to grow grass
