West/South at Fernandina Beach Municipal Golf Course
About
Just north of the Jacksonville Airport, Fernandina Beach Golf Club offers three 18-hole courses that are conveniently located within distance of both Jacksonville and the beach. There are three distinct nines at the club that create three different 18-hole combinations. The West/South combination is the tournament course at Fernandina Beach Golf Club. The West nine is long and there is a challenging par-5 that is one of the most difficult on the golf course. The South nine features an abundance of trees and water hazards, putting a heavier emphasis on accuracy rather than distance in scoring well. The golf course is also considered a perfect example of scenic Florida golf with native foliage and wildlife throughout.

Dont bother
Registered as single. Group i was matched with wanted to play without 4th, starter let them? I had to wait two more groups. Round took over 5 hours and 20 minutes. I watched two groups in front of us, too many should not have been on a course, couldn't advance the ball. No ranger to move groups along.
Course was in awful shape. Thankfully the weather was great. I canceled my Sunday t time. A very unpleasant experience.
In need of some care
The winter has been hard on this course. The fairways are mostly dirt with some grass. The rough is mostly weeds. Looks like they are working on the South nine, but it’s going to take some time. It’s owned by the city, so they probably don’t have a big enough budget to care for it adequately. The greens were pretty good though.
Fernandina Beach Escape
This is the second time my wife and I have played this course and have enjoyed it very much both times.
Take a PASS
In my 40+ years of playing this game I have never come across a golf course in worse condition. In such a warm climate one would naturally question how the grass could be so thin as to cause u to roll your ball to find a thin patch of grass. The first cut of rough was a continuous mat of overlapping weeds that resemble miniature "Lilly pads". Not being from this area I could not identify this weed but it has no purpose of being on a golf course. Why would the owners not keep this golf course in better conditions commensurate to the upscale resort area is the question you have to ask. Horrible.
Unbelievably Bad
Why is a golf course in the warm climate of Florida in such bad condition? I simply do not understand. This has to be the worst condition of a golf course that I have personally experienced in my forty+ years of playing. If I had not pre paid for my round in advance I would have quit after 5 holes and asked for a refund. I really hate to bad mouth anybody or anything but conditions were so horrible that I feel it is my responsibility to alert folks who are spending their vacation on Amelia Island to pass on this golf course. Sorry but the owners need to do something.
Needs work
Rough shape.city needs to spend money on this course. It is very popular.
Reasonable value, but rough condition
Nice course in beautiful setting. Greens were OK but the fairways were in tough shape in some areas. Cart path needs extensive work..
First time
Course was ok and greens showed winter wear. Warmer weather would help the grass a lot. Convenient to our rental house. Would play it again
Local course
A fun golf course for casual players. Not alot of water or sand obstacles. But it is perfect to utilize for practicing your game.
Great Price and Range
Driving Range is the best around. Course is always a bargain course. Use GolfNow App for deals.
Course needs work
Nice, flat layout, but Course is suffering from neglect. .Numerous fairway areas were without grass or roped off. I doubt I'll play this course again.
Needs attention
The South course should be closed, trees removed and reseeded before it is reopened. There are 3 or 4 holes where they have roped off the fairways to cart traffic and are attempting to grow grass. The grass is not growing, and until it does grow and fill in, these holes are all but unplayable. It would be better to close this 9, and work to get it fully rehabbed and ready for real play.
Poor course conditions
I understand it is January but the fairways were in very poor condition.
The greens were decent speed but clumps of new grass sprouting made putts of less than 10’ very difficult.
Sand traps were consistent and well maintained.
Note: I rarely submit reviews. I was quite disappointed.
